Course Description

Chronic low back pain is an extremely common condition, that is treated almost daily by physiotherapists all over the globe. Despite the extensive research done on the treatment and rehabilitation on this condition, there still is a great percentage of recurrences.

This talk looks at the research done which links aberrant breathing patterns to chronic low back pain.

The role of the diaphragm as both a respiratory and postural muscle is explained, and why it plays a role in back pain. Assessing and identifying normal and abnormal breathing patterns are discussed, as well as a look at clinical application on breath retraining.
